What We Do

Given the future scenarios challenging the agricultural sector such as crippling food demand climate shock and water scarcity, additional research capacity is needed in order to realize the full benefits of organic agriculture and respond to the needs of farmers and consumers.

Organic Farming

Organic farming is a form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost, and biological pest control. Depending on whose definition is used, organic farming uses fertilizers and pesticides if they are considered natural .

  • Steady supply of mother cultures of bio-fertilizer

    Develop, maintain, undertake regular efficacy testing and ensure steady supply of mother cultures of bio-fertilizer and other beneficial micro-organisms for nutrient mobilization and plant protection to the biological input production industry.

  • Technical support to existing certification systems

    Technical support to existing certification systems in terms of standards formulation, designing implementation protocols, evaluation and surveillance. Policy, implementation and surveillance support to alternative farmers' group centric low-cost certification system such as PGS.

  • Conduct studies on various agricultural practices

    To conduct studies on various agricultural practices followed in various agricultural zones such as Kuttanadu, Palakkad, Wayanad and High Range regions of Idukki and Wayanad

  • Certificate and diploma courses on various aspects of organic farming

    The Centre shall run short term certificate and diploma courses on various aspects of organic farming and sustainable agriculture in addition to the existing certificate courses on organic farming.

  • Network of research centres

    It aims to achieve its vision by producing a network of research centres collaborating to produce high quality research in organic agricultural systems relevant to the needs of farmers and processors in developing countries.

  • State-of-the-art facilities accessible for the researchers

    The Centre will be centrally provided with state-of-the-art facilities accessible for the researchers and other interested groups working in different Universities.
